PEACE OFFICER REFRESHER ACADEMY

This training is required for persons appointed as peace officers on, or after, January 1, 1989, and who have had a break in services of more than one year but less than four years. This two-day course meets the requirements described in Section 109: 2-1-12(D) of the Ohio Administrative Code. You will receive additional information regarding testing on your first day in the Sinclair Refresher Academy, in addition to what is listed in the testing portion of this page.

Participants must be a commissioned Ohio law enforcement officer and EMAIL their OPOTA Training Determination Notice prior to the training start date.  Please send your email to [email protected].

Registrants without OPOTA authorization via the Training Determination notice will not be allowed to participate in class and receive credit. For more information on refresher requirements, please contact OPOTC’s Professional Standards Division at 740-845-2700 or [email protected].

TESTING: The State Certification Exam is administered and scheduled through Pearson Vue. It is the individual’s responsibility to cover payment for the exam. Once you complete the Refresher Academy, OPOTA sends a file to Pearson Vue authorizing them to allow you to test. Pearson Vue will then send you an email (Authorization to Test – ATT). This could take up to 4-6 weeks. Once you receive the authorization to test, go to https://home.pearsonvue.com/oh/opotc where you will create an account and be able to schedule the location, date and time of your test. There are approx. 100 test centers in Ohio, including one at Sinclair. Please call Pearson Vue at 866-361-5817 if you need assistance scheduling your exam.

POLICIES & DISCLOSURES:

Cancellations:
Cancellations received 14 business days prior to class start date will not incur any charges. Registrants cancelling less than 14 business days prior to the class start date or failing to show for a class will be responsible for 100% of the class fee. All cancellations must be sent via email to [email protected] or 937.252.9787.
Substitutions: If a company has an employee registered for a class and that person cannot attend, the company may substitute another employee at any time prior to the class start date. Please contact [email protected] or 937.252.9787 with notification of student change as soon as possible.

Classes are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollments, which vary by class, are not met for each session. If your class is cancelled, we will do our best to provide you with adequate advance notice and you will receive a full refund.

Inclement Weather:
In case of inclement weather, Sinclair Workforce Development will follow Sinclair Community College instructions regarding a delay or closing for Open Enrollment sessions. Please check www.sinclair.edu or your news channel for closure and delays. This will be the most up to date information. If a delay is announced, please reference your class start time to determine if it is affected.

For example:
A 2-hour delay has been announced in the morning:
Example 1: If the class you are registered for is scheduled for 8am-5pm, then the class will be rescheduled for another day
Example 2: If the class you are registered for is scheduled for 1pm-5pm, it will still run that day at the scheduled time.

In the event of a class cancellation, we will do our best to reschedule the class as soon as possible and notify you accordingly. Should the rescheduled date and time not work for you we will process a full refund.
